Bon Jovi at the peak of their powers. This was one year after the release of New Jersey proved that the genius of Slippery When Wet was no fluke. It was also less than a week after the legendary acoustic performance of Livin on a Prayer/Wanted Dead or Alive (check out Jon’s hair and necklace, and Richie’s backing vocals, all three things are world class) by Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist/vocalist Richie Sambora at the MTV Video Music Awards. Twenty-five years later and that is still in the pantheon of all time great VMA moments, and gave birth to MTVs fantastic Unplugged series. Bon Jovi in 1989 were the Beatles in 1965, The Rolling Stones in 1972, Nirvana/Pearl Jam in 1992, Michael Jackson in 1984, or even N’Sync in 2000 or U2 in 2001.
